The Kano State Government has donated ₦100 million to assist victims of the recent fuel tanker explosion in Majiya town, Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
Governor Abba Yusuf made the announcement during a condolence visit to Jigawa’s Governor, Umar Namadi, at the Government House in Dutse on Thursday.
The explosion claimed the lives of at least 153 people, who were buried on Wednesday, while several others remain in hospitals with injuries.
In a statement by Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, the governor explained that the donation was aimed at helping the families of those who died and supporting the treatment of the injured.
“The donation is meant to support the families of those who lost their loved ones as well as to assist those receiving medical treatment in hospitals,” the statement read.
Governor Yusuf also expressed his condolences to the grieving families, offering prayers for the prevention of future tragedies.
In response, Governor Namadi thanked the Kano government for the generous support, assuring that the funds would be used responsibly to aid the victims and their families.
In a separate gesture, Yusuf donated ₦100 million to traders affected by a fire that destroyed 29 shops in the Kantin Kwari Textile Market.
