THE Governor of Kano State Abba Yusuf has lauded the peaceful conduct of the Local Government elections held across all 44 local government areas in the state.
The governor made this statement today at the KANSIEC office after casting his vote in the Gwale Local Government.
He expressed gratitude for the support provided by electoral commission chairmen from other states who observed the elections.
Governor Yusuf highlighted that the elections, which took place in 484 wards throughout the 44 local governments, were the most transparent in Kano’s history.
“This election is the freest in Kano’s history,” he declared.
He assured that the newly elected officials would prioritize the interests of the people and that his administration would uphold good governance.
The governor commended the chairman and staff of KANSIEC for facilitating free and fair elections in the state.
“When it comes to elections, there should be no impunity, and we must ensure that citizens can exercise their right to vote,” he stated.
He also urged the judiciary to remain neutral in electoral matters, emphasizing that partisanship is detrimental to the judiciary’s integrity.
“Although the Kano state government is currently the only one in office under the NNPP platform, we should not feel intimidated. The people of Kano are peace-loving, but if provoked, they can respond,” he cautioned.
“We have witnessed events in Rivers State, so we took proactive steps to prevent a similar situation in Kano.”
Yusuf further called on the opposition to accept defeat, pointing to his party’s strong voter backing.
“I urge the opposition to acknowledge their losses, as we clearly have the advantage in voter support,” he remarked.
Aliyu Sulaiman, an official from the Sokoto State Electoral Commission, also commended the peaceful nature of the elections.
