Kano: Woman Among 44 Elected LG Chairmen As KANSIEC Issues Certificates

A young woman was among the 44 local government chairmen elected on Saturday on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in the Kano State local government elections.

Ms Saโ€™adatu Yushau Tudunwada, the only woman, was elected as the Chairperson of Tudunwada LG.

She was among the 44 others the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) presented Certificates of Return to on Sunday.

KANSIEC chairman, Professor Sani, who was sacked by the Federal High Court in the state and restored by the Kano State High Court, Malumfashi presented the certificates to the 44 elected council chairmen.

Speaking during the exercise, he said โ€œthe issuance of todayโ€™s Certificates of Return marked the concluding end of our mandate which we have carried out diligently and in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of the land.โ€

Also speaking to journalists after the exercise, the only female, Tudunwada, promised to ensure equity for the people of her local government area, regardless of their party affiliation.

The newly elected Chairman of Fagge LGA, Salisu Masu, also expressed concern that the council is experiencing revenue shortages due to leakages.

โ€œI will do all I could to block leakages and improve revenue generation because right now, from the information Iโ€™m receiving, our Federal Government subvention is not even enough to pay salaries until the state government augments US?โ€
