The Lagos State Government has announced that the Red Line rail service will commence full passenger operations on Tuesday, October 15.
The announcement was made by the Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Engr. Abimbola Akinajo.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is expected to lead his executive council members and other dignitaries in launching the passenger operations, riding with commuters on the first fee-paying trip.
According to Akinajo, daily train services will begin at 6:00 a.m. from Agbado.
The Red Line rail spans 37 kilometers, running from Agbado to Marina and featuring 13 stations, including Agbado, Iju, Agege, Ikeja, MMIA International, MMIA Domestic, Oshodi, Mushin, Yaba, Ebute-Metta, Iddo, Ebute Ero, and Marina. The initial phase of the infrastructure was commissioned by President Bola Tinubu in February.
This first phase covers 27 kilometers and includes eight stations at Oyingbo, Yaba, Mushin, Oshodi, Ikeja, Agege, Iju, and Agbado.
Once the entire project is completed, the rail line is expected to transport 500,000 passengers daily, equating to 3.5 million passengers weekly and 15 million passengers per month.
