Atalanta showcased their attacking prowess on Saturday as they cruised to a commanding 6-1 victory over Hellas Verona in Serie A, with Nigerian star Ademola Lookman stealing the show.
Lookman recorded two goals and two assists, propelling his team to fourth place on the Serie A table with 16 points from nine matches.
The game started with an early surge from Atalanta, as Marten de Roon opened the scoring in the 6th minute following an assist from Lookman.
Just three minutes later, Matteo Retegui doubled the lead, putting Verona on the back foot. The relentless Atalanta attack continued when Charles De Ketelaere netted the third goal in the 14th minute, with Lookman again setting up his teammate.
Lookman then took center stage, scoring twice within five minutes. His first came in the 29th minute, and he followed it up in the 34th minute, giving Atalanta an unassailable 5-0 lead. Verona managed to pull one back in the 42nd minute through Abdoulaye Sarr, making it 5-1 at halftime.
The second half saw fewer fireworks, with Atalanta controlling the pace. Retegui found the net again in the 58th minute to seal the 6-1 scoreline.
Lookmanโs performance has not only helped Atalanta climb the Serie A standings but has also boosted his season tally to five goals and three assists across all competitions, underlining his pivotal role in the squadโs success.
