SUPER EAGLES of Nigeria stars Ademola Lookman and William Troost-Ekong are up for the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year Award.
Lookman and Troost-Ekong are among the 10 players on the shortlist released by the Confederation of African Football yesterday.
However, Victor Boniface, who had been tipped to be among the contenders, was missing on the list.
The other nominees are Achraf Hakimi (Morocco), Simon Adingra (Cote d’Ivoire), Ronwen Williams (South Africa), Amine Gouiri (Algeria), Edmond Tapsoba (Burkina Faso), Serhou Guirassy (Guinea), Chancel Mbemba (DR Congo) and Soufiane Rahimi (Morocco).
CAF had earlier on Thursday announced that the 2024 Awards would be held in Morocco for the third consecutive time on December 16.
Lookman and Troost-Ekong were named in CAF’s Best XI of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire, following their impressive performances in the competition.
They played key roles as Nigeria reached the final, which the three-time African champions lost 2-1 to the hosts.
Lookman scored three goals and made one assist in seven matches during the competition.
Captain Troost-Ekong scored three goals from his centre-back position and was named the Player of the Tournament.
The 31-year-old also became the highest-scoring defender in the history of the competition with five goals from three editions.
