In a highly anticipated announcement, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed the 10-man shortlist for the prestigious 2024 Player of the Year award. The list was made public through CAF’s official social media platforms on Thursday.
Nigerian football fans have reason to celebrate, as two of their standout players, Ademola Lookman and William Troost-Ekong, have been nominated for the award.
Lookman, who has been in scintillating form for Atalanta in Serie A, has had a remarkable year, establishing himself as one of Africa’s top attacking talents.
Troost-Ekong, a central defender plying his trade at Watford, has also impressed, particularly with his leadership and solid performances for the Super Eagles.
Beyond individual recognition, Nigeria men have received nominations in three categories at the 2024 CAF Awards, showcasing the nation’s football excellence:

The shortlist features other top African stars including Achraf Hakimi of Morocco, currently playing for Paris Saint-Germain, and Simon Adingra from Cote d’Ivoire, who has been a standout performer at Brighton.
South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, who represents Orlando Pirates, also made the list, highlighting his exceptional contributions between the posts.
