Amid the ongoing leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Bauchi State PDP Coalition Youth Stakeholders have expressed their unwavering support to the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum.
According to the group, many of Damagum’s critics failed to secure victories in their own polling units during the last elections.
Speaking to journalists in Bauchi on Tuesday, the group, led by Sagir A. Sardauna, declared: “We will not tolerate any attacks or disrespect toward our National Chairman”.
The group vowed to oppose any unconstitutional attempt to remove Damagum.
They called for the recent judgment of the Abuja Federal High Court to be respected.
“We fully back him and hereby affirm our total support for our party’s acting national chairman, H.E. Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum.”
“Damagum, a long-standing PDP member since 1998, has demonstrated consistent loyalty and dedication to the party’s success.”
The Bauchi PDP youths pointed to Damagum’s strong support for the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, from the primaries through to the general elections.
They also pointed out that Damagum led PDP to victory in Yobe State for the first time in history, adding that Damagum is currently backing the PDP governorship candidate in Edo State in the legal battle that followed the poll.
According to the group, certain individuals with diminishing political influence in their states are unfairly targeting Damagum because of his efforts to maintain party unity and his resistance to those seeking to dismantle the PDP for their 2027 ambitions.
The group accused the individuals of spreading false narratives under the guise of anti-party claims.
