THE Defence Headquarters has rejected assertions made by the Niger State House of Assembly claiming that bandits and terrorists have overtaken the Nigerian Army training camp in Kontagora.
In a statement issued by Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, the military emphasized, “No part of the training area has been surrendered to terrorists.”
General Buba stated that troops have consistently neutralized the threats from terrorists operating in the extensive region, noting that their clearance operations have restricted the terrorists’ freedom of movement.
He clarified that the current operations, especially in Niger, are specifically aimed at addressing terrorist activities, asserting that it is incorrect to label these threats in any other manner than terrorism.
He also mentioned that the military is collaborating closely with the Niger State government to enhance security for all residents of the state.
During a plenary session on Tuesday, the Niger State House of Assembly reported that around 23 farming communities have vacated their homes due to the alleged takeover of a major military training camp in the Kontagora Local Government Area by armed bandits.
They noted that this situation has significantly increased security risks for both the military personnel stationed there and the local communities dependent on the camp’s stability for their safety.
