THE General Assembly of the Nigeria Football Federation has approved the body’s sizable budget for 2025.
The General Assembly was held in Asaba, Delta State on Friday, with the highlight the approval of the budget proposal of N17.6 billion put forward by the board.
The Congress also approved a one-year extension to the tenure of PricewaterhouseCoopers as the NFF’s external auditors.
The NFF says the big budget is aimed at strengthening Nigerian football at all levels, as the Congress also ratified the body’s financial statements for the year ending 2023.
The N17.6bn budget is over N3bn more than what the Congress approved for the 2024 financial year, which was N14.4bn.
Among other resolutions, the Congress “acknowledged the progress made so far by the NFF Executive Committee towards prioritizing the FIFA-initiated amendments to the NFF Statutes 2010, and assured that the concerns of Nigerians will be addressed when the amendment is concluded. The Congress noted that an Extraordinary General Assembly will be convened at an appropriate time to consider the amendments of the NFF Statutes in due course.”
The Congress also resolved to support NFF President Amaju Pinnick’s quest to retain his seat on the FIFA Council – the supreme governing organ for football globally.
Current NFF President Ibrahim Gusau and his board received a vote of confidence, as the Super Eagles and the Super Falcons were commended for respectively reaching the final of the Africa Cup of Nations in February and qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympics Games women’s football event.
