The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has stepped into the festering crisis in the party and called on feuding parties to return to the status quo thus nullifying the suspension slammed on members of the National Working Committee (NWC).
While expressing his concern in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, the BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, urged all parties involved to de-escalate tensions for the sake of party unity.
Wabara called “on both sides of the NWC to sheath their swords and revert to the status quo to preserve the unity and stability of our great party,” Wabara said.
The BoT chairman emphasised that while disagreements are natural, the PDP’s tradition of internal democracy must not be compromised.
THE WHISTLER reports that after series of meetings on Thursday, the PDP split into two factions, with a faction led by the National Chairman of the party, Umar Damagum, suspending National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, and the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba.
Soon afterwards, another faction suspended Damagum, and the National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, for alleged disloyalty to the party.
Wabara also assured members that the BoT would engage with the NWC to foster reconciliation and restore normalcy.
“We remain committed to promoting peace, unity, and progress within the PDP, and we call on all party faithful and supporters to stay calm as we resolve these issues,” he added.
