PDP Postpones NEC Meeting to Focus on Ondo Election, Unity

Kehinde Fajobi

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting from October 24 to November 28, 2024. This was agreed during a consultative meeting at the Bauchi State Governorโ€™s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja.

Bala Mohammed, Chairman of the PDP Governorsโ€™ Forum, said the decision was made to ensure unity ahead of the Ondo gubernatorial elections on November 16.

โ€œThe meeting postponement is to ensure that the party goes into the forthcoming Ondo gubernatorial electionsโ€ฆwith the unity and strength demanded, to โ€˜unseat the floundering All Progressive Congress, APC government in the state.โ€™โ€

The communique further stressed the need for unity amidst the partyโ€™s internal crisis, stating, โ€œReiterating the need for unity in the face of efforts by detractors to divide the party, the meeting called on all members to shun divisive utterances that could undermine ongoing efforts at strengthening the party.โ€

It also emphasised that the partyโ€™s focus should remain on regaining political strength for the 2027 elections, urging members to support ongoing efforts for the partyโ€™s growth.

The meeting had in attendance key party organs, including the PDP Governors Forum, Board of Trustees, National Working Committee (NWC), National Assembly Leadership of the PDP Caucus, and the Forum of Former Governors.

This gathering comes as the PDP faces internal tensions and disunity, with leaders calling for restraint and cooperation to navigate the partyโ€™s challenges and rebuild its strength as the main opposition in Nigeria.
