In a swift crackdown on corruption within its ranks, the Rivers State Police Command arrested three personnel for engaging in extortion and misconduct on October 29, 2024.
Inspectors Sarah Anendei, Caroline Promise, and Christiana Jatau were apprehended during a coordinated monitoring patrol conducted by operatives from the Commissioner of Police team’s monitoring unit.
A statement by Police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, explained that the operation took place under the Rumuokoro Flyover around 3 pm.
She said Inspectors Promise and Jatau were out of uniform while extorting money from innocent motorists.
She added that a mobile phone video captured the incident, providing irrefutable evidence of their misconduct.
Upon arresting the officers, operatives conducted an on-site investigation and recovered the extorted money. The personnel are currently detained, awaiting disciplinary measures. She stated.
She, however, noted that the Rivers State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to professional integrity, assuring the public that any personnel found violating service principles will be held accountable.
“We will not tolerate any form of corruption or misconduct within our ranks,” said SP Grace Iringe-Koko, Public Relations Officer. “Our goal is to maintain public trust and ensure justice is served.”
The arrested personnel will face disciplinary measures, serving as a deterrent to others who may engage in similar misconduct.
