Police in Enugu Arrest, Reveal Inspector Who Shot Musician Dead

The Enugu State Police Command has revealed the identity of the police inspector responsible for the fatal shooting of popular Nigerian musician, Chikezie Mba, widely known as Igbo-Jah.

The tragic incident occurred on Friday at the Anti-Cult Unit of the Enugu Police Command.

Mba was attending an event at the police facility when officers began firing indiscriminately. The musician was struck by bullets and later succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.

According to police, Mba was leaving the premises after a โ€œfriendlyโ€ visit when Inspector Joseph Ozonwanji fired at him for โ€œreasons yet to be ascertained.โ€

In a statement released on Saturday, Enugu State police spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed Inspector Ozonwanjiโ€™s arrest and shared a photograph of him in detention.

Ndukwe assured the public that the inspector would face the full consequences of his actions once the investigation is concluded.

Meanwhile, Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has called for a thorough investigation into the killing, which has sparked outrage in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, also visited Mbaโ€™s family on Saturday, alongside officials from the Enugu State Government.

Uzuegbu offered condolences to the bereaved family and friends, pledging that the investigation would be handled swiftly and justice would be served.

He reassured residents that the Nigeria Police Force remains a disciplined organization, committed to holding its officers accountable for any misconduct.

โ€œWe sympathize with those affected by this tragic event, and we ask the public to trust that justice will be done,โ€ Uzuegbu stated.

The incident has left many Nigerians demanding accountability and swift action to prevent such tragedies in the future.
