A 49-year-old man known as Mike Nnaji, a native of Amuri in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, has been killed by unknown gunmen in Ebonyi State.
Nnaji was allegedly shot and set ablaze at Ngbo in Oha Ukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State Tuesday night, family sources told NewsNGR.
According to one of the members of the family, who preferred anonymity, those who killed the man were masked.
They rode into the compound in the night and rushed into their parlour where they opened fire on the man, the source said, adding that after the shooting, they poured fuel on him and set the body and the building ablaze.
It was gathered that the attackers almost dragged another member of the family into the raging fire but eventually fled the scene when she resisted them.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident.
He said, “We are aware of the incident. We are yet to get the details of what really happened in the area.
“We have contacted Ohaukwu Divisional Headquarters and our team has moved to the scene for investigation.
“I am yet to be briefed. The state police command will carry out an in-depth investigation into the matter. We assure that the perpetrators will be apprehended and prosecuted.”
It was gathered that the remains of the deceased were deposited at Ezzamgbo General Hospital mortuary.
