The Senate will begin screening seven recently nominated ministers on Tuesday, following President Bola Tinubu’s request for their confirmation.
Tinubu had swiftly forwarded their names to the Senate last week after announcing the nominations and calling for their review and confirmation.
The nominees include Nentawe Yilwatda (Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction), Muhammadu Dingyadi (Labour & Employment), Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu (State Foreign Affairs), Jumoke Oduwole (Industry, Trade and Investment), Idi Mukhtar Maiha (Livestock Development), Yusuf Ata (State, Housing and Urban Development), and Suwaiba Ahmad (State Education).
This confirmation process follows Tinubu’s recent cabinet reshuffle, where he dismissed five ministers, reassigned ten others, and named the seven new nominees.
Among those removed were Uju-Ken Ohanenye (Women Affairs), Lola Ade-John (Tourism), Tahir Mamman (Education), Abdullahi Gwarzo (State, Housing and Urban Development), and Jamila Ibrahim (Youth Development).
Reassignments included Yusuf Sununu, now the Minister of State, Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, and Olatunji Alausa, now serving as the Minister of Education.
Additionally, Tinubu assigned Bello Goronyo to the Ministry of State Works and Abubakar Momoh to Regional Development, while moving Uba Maigari Ahmadu to State, Regional Development from State, Steel Development.
Other reassignments included Doris Uzoka-Anite to Minister of State Finance, John Enoh to Minister of State, Trade and Investment, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim to Women Affairs, Ayodele Olawande to Minister of Youth Development, and Iziak Salako to State, Health.
