Controversial media personality Darlington Okoye, fondly called Speed Darlington, has regained his freedom after securing bail.
The news of his release was shared by human rights advocate Deji Adeyanju on his X handle, revealing that Speed Darlington was granted bail on the 8th of October 2024, after meeting all the required conditions.
Adeyanju disclosed that Speed Darlington was apprehended in Lagos last on the 4th of October, 2024, and later transferred to Abuja, where he was held in custody due to a formal complaint lodged by musician Burna Boy.
Burna Boy accused Speed Darlington of defamation and cyberstalking, following a viral video in which Speed Darlington questioned how Burna Boy won a Grammy for his album Twice As Tall.
He went further to insinuate Burna Boyโs ties with embattled U.S. rapper Sean โDiddyโ Combs, who is currently facing serious allegations of sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
The media personalityโs comments allegedly led to his discreet arrest by the police.
Adeyanju, however, expressed gratitude to those who supported Speed Darlingtonโs release and applauded the policeโs IRT department for their professionalism throughout the ordeal.
โSpecial appreciation to #YeleSowore, super reliable senior lawyer #stanalieke, and to all Nigerians for raising their voice for Speed Darlington. Must also appreciate Prof Sanusi and his team at IRT for their professionalism today,โ he wrote.
