Taskforce arrests Eiye, Vikings cult members in Edo

The Edo State Special Taskforce on Anti-Cultism announced on Wednesday that several suspects have been apprehended following renewed violent clashes between members of the Eiye and Vikings confraternities.

The State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, disclosed this at a press conference in Benin City, stressing the taskforceโ€™s zero tolerance for cult-related activities. Nehikhare warned cultists to either leave the state or face arrest, affirming that the taskforce will not allow disruptions to public peace.

Following a violent incident involving suspected cultists on October 27, 2024, in Benin City, the taskforce launched an investigation and has made multiple arrests. Efforts are also underway to capture other key figures and suspects on the run.

Nehikhare added that intensified patrols and a coordinated response from the taskforce have helped contain the violence, preventing further bloodshed and escalation. Patrol operations have been reinforced in identified hotspots to deter any resurgence of violence.

The commissioner reassured the public that the taskforce is committed to ensuring the safety of residents and pledged to bring all perpetrators to justice.
