The French Professional Football League (LFP) has ruled in favour of Kylian Mbappe, ordering Paris Saint-Germain to pay the €55 million allegedly owed to the star forward, Soccernet.football reports.
The decision, delivered by the LFP’s joint appeals committee, marks a significant development in the ongoing financial dispute between Mbappe and the French club.
However, PSG have announced its refusal to comply, opting instead to escalate the matter to the courts.
In a statement following the ruling as per TMW, a PSG spokesperson explained, “Now that the appeals committee has confirmed the opinion expressed by the legal committee, the club has decided to take the matter to the competent courts – while continuing to try to find an amicable solution with the player.”
The €55 million dispute encompasses alleged unpaid wages and additional bonuses, with Mbappe holding firm in his claim.
The PSG spokesperson expressed frustration, stating, “In law and in fact, the player has made clear and repeated public and private commitments that the club simply asks him to honour and respect in view of the unprecedented benefits he has received from the club for seven years in Paris.”
Emphasising the club’s perspective, the spokesperson added, “It is hoped that the given word will be respected in the knowledge that if the player unfortunately decides to pursue this dispute, the club will be forced to have it judged by the competent courts and to have the damage it has suffered and continues to suffer recognized because of the incomprehensible position of its former player. It is a question of good faith, honesty, upholding values, and respect for the Parisian institution and its supporters.”
This high-profile dispute may proceed to the French Football Federation (FFF), the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF), or even the labour court, as both parties remain at odds over the unresolved financial obligations.
