France national team captain and Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé has strongly denied accusations of rape following media reports that he is under investigation in Sweden, Soccernet.football reports.
The allegations, which surfaced after an alleged incident in a Stockholm hotel, have been described by Mbappé’s representatives as “totally false” and “a slanderous rumour.”
Swedish prosecutors confirmed the opening of a probe into a rape allegation, but they have not identified any suspects.
Local media outlets, including SVT and dailies Expressen and Aftonbladet, reported that Mbappé, 25, was the focus of the investigation.
Mbappé’s lawyer, Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard, stated as per TMW that the Real Madrid forward is “stunned” by the accusations but remains “calm” as he has “nothing to reproach himself for.”
She added, “We will sue for slander because it is impossible to allow oneself to be defamed in this way.”
The alleged incident is said to have occurred during a private trip to Stockholm with friends last week.
Mbappé and his group left Sweden on Friday, and a report of the allegation was filed the following day by an unidentified victim, according to Expressen.
Mbappé responded to the reports on social media, dismissing the claims as “Fake News!!!!”
While Mbappé has returned to training with Real Madrid, the club has yet to comment on the situation or confirm whether Swedish authorities have contacted them regarding the case.
