After THE WHISTLER Report, Sokoto Moves To Complete N6.7bn Power Plant

The Sokoto State Government on Thursday announced a move to complete the state Independent Power Plant (IPP) with additional N950m.

The announcement came after NewsNGR published an investigative story that unearthed how the project was abandoned after injecting over N6.7bn at the commencement of the project in 2008.

The story also revealed its economic impacts on the residents of the state, causing unbearable experience to the small and medium scale business owners who relied on regular power supply to thrive their business.

Speaking after the State Executive Council meeting, State Commissioner for Information, Bello Danchadi said the Council has approved the payment of N950m to Cartel Construction Limited to complete the Power Project (IPP).

โ€œThis project is crucial to the economy and social life of our people,โ€ Danchadi said, corroborating NewsNGRโ€™s investigation.

Also, the State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, said via X, โ€œI am pleased to announce that the Sokoto State Executive Council, under my leadership, has approved several key projects aimed at enhancing the security, infrastructure, and cultural heritage of our beloved state.

According to him, the state government would do all that is necessary to ensure that the Power Plant was completed.

He said the completion will boost efforts of the government to complement efforts of the governor to boost economic activities in Sokoto.

This, he stated, is among other key decisions taken to improve the state.
