In a bold statement following Viktor Gyökeres’ stunning performance in Tuesday night’s match against Manchester City, where the striker netted a sensational hat-trick, Sporting Lisbon’s manager Rúben Amorim has confirmed that the Swedish forward will NOT be joining Manchester United in January.
Amorim, addressing the rumors surrounding Gyökeres’ potential move to Old Trafford, made it clear that he fully expects the forward to remain at Sporting until the end of the season.
“I respect Sporting. Viktor has to stay until the end of the season… and then maybe go somewhere else,” Amorim stated, further quashing any speculation linking Gyökeres to a winter transfer.
The coach was firm in his stance, adding, “I won’t make any joke about Gyökeres to United as I respect this club and this is my city, forget about it.”
Amorim also praised Gyökeres’ contributions to the team, emphasizing his importance to Sporting’s ambitions.
“Viktor deserves to stay at Sporting and celebrate as title winner in June,” Amorim confirmed, underlining his belief that Gyökeres’ future lies with the Lisbon giants for the remainder of the season.
The striker’s remarkable performance against Manchester City, where he scored a hat-trick, has certainly attracted the attention of top European clubs, but for now, it seems that Viktor Gyökeres’ focus will remain on Sporting as they chase glory in the upcoming months.
