The Bauchi State Police Command has intensified its fight against criminal activities, arresting seven suspects linked to robbery and theft, while recovering various stolen items.
This proactive approach underscores the police’s commitment to ensuring safety during the festive season.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, detailed the arrests made by officers from the Yelwa Divisional Police Headquarters, acting on credible intelligence.
Among the suspects are Musa Umar (17), Ibrahim Mohammed (17), Bilal Musa (17), Idriss Jibrin (17), and Maryam Salisu (40), who were apprehended for their alleged involvement in armed robbery, conspiracy, and aiding criminal activities.
Recovered items include two laptops, four mobile phones, three chargers, two flashlights, three bottles of palm oil, a headphone set, a power bank, and an MP3 player.
In a separate incident, Adamu Mohammed (22), a security guard at GRA Bauchi, was arrested for allegedly stealing an armoured cable from his workplace.
“The suspect confessed to the theft during questioning, and investigations are ongoing,” Wakil stated.
The command also re-arrested a notorious ex-convict, Jaafar Lawan (34), for a fresh robbery case.
Jaafar had previously been convicted in July 2023 for attacking a commercial motorcyclist with an accomplice.
Despite his conviction, a new complaint lodged on November 17, 2024, linked him to another incident.
According to Wakil, Jaafar allegedly requested a ride and used a substance to render his victim unconscious.
The victim regained consciousness three days later in a hospital. Investigations are ongoing, and Jaafar will face fresh charges in court.
The Bauchi Police Command has reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order, particularly during the Yuletide season. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
“The proactive measures being implemented are part of the command’s strategy to ensure a crime-free festive period and protect citizens from criminal elements,” Wakil emphasized.
