The federal government has announced the removal of Engr. Ohieku Muhammed Salami as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the government cited โactions unbecoming of his office and violations of established proceduresโ as the reason for his removal.
The statement, from the Federal Ministry of Health, highlighted a series of unprofessional actions by Engr. Salami, including suspending the Vice-Chancellor without following the proper procedures.
Despite intervention by the Federal Ministry of Education and formal requests to reverse the suspension, Salami reportedly refused to comply and engaged in abusive and threatening behavior toward the ministryโs directors, including the permanent secretary.
Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa expressed concern that such conduct undermines the Ministryโs role in overseeing the university and threatens the institutionโs governance and stability.
As a result, the Minister has called for the appointment of a new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council to restore proper governance and ensure the university operates in accordance with the rule of law, due process, and accountability.
The government emphasized that the changes take immediate effect and reaffirmed its commitment to good governance and the continued growth and development of the nationโs universities.
