Olufemi Oluyede, recently appointed acting Chief of Army Staff by President Bola Tinubu, has been officially promoted to the rank of lieutenant general, signaling his impending confirmation as the substantive army chief.
The decoration took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, as confirmed by the Presidentโs spokesman, Bayo Onanuga.
Mr. Oluyede, who previously held the rank of major general, is expected to succeed Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, who has been unable to fulfill his duties due to health reasons.
As of now, the fate of Mr. Lagbaja remains unclear, but sources indicate that the presidency plans to issue a statement regarding the situation later.
This promotion follows the announcement made by Onanuga last Wednesday, detailing Mr. Oluyedeโs appointment as acting army chief.
