Edo Assembly Approves Governor’s Request for 20 Advisers

The Edo State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, approved Governor Monday Okpebholo’s request to appoint 20 Special Advisers to support the smooth running of his administration.

The governor’s request was conveyed in a letter from the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor.

The motion for approval was moved during plenary by the Majority Leader, Charity Aiguobarueghian, and seconded by the Minority Leader, Eric Okaka.

Aiguobarueghian explained that the governor’s request was in line with Section 196 (2) of the 1999 Constitution, which empowers state governors to appoint special advisers.

The Assembly unanimously approved the motion, allowing the governor to proceed with the appointments.

The lawmakers also received another letter from Governor Okpebholo, nominating Emmanuel Okoebor for the position of Commissioner for Finance.

The nomination is expected to undergo further legislative consideration.
