Goods Destroyed As Fire Guts Lagos Factory

A fire broke out Tuesday night at Imperio International, a factory situated at 6 Ayodele Diyan Street, off Ladipo Oluwole Street, in Ikeja, Lagos, causing extensive damage to goods.

Among the items destroyed were body sprays, perfumes, and creams, with the flames partially impacting a twin warehouse block.

The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the incident, noting that the damage could have been more severe had firefighters not prevented the blaze from spreading to the rear twin warehouse block used for production.

โ€œThe blaze which left substantial damage of goods including bodyspray, perfumes, creams among others while partially affecting the twin warehouse block was confined.

โ€œThis was consequent upon prevention of further spread to the rear twin warehouse block used for production which incident could have been more devastating due to the volatility of raw materials and equipment storage as well as factory personnel it houses,โ€ Adeseye stated

It took the combined efforts of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Nigeria Police Force, Mouka Foam, and others to bring the fire under control.

According to Adeseye, there were no casualties or injuries recorded in the incident.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

โ€œThe cause of the incident which investigation is running simultenously with the recovery will be revealed upon completion as no casualty was recorded.

โ€œThe operations are a true reflection of public-private partnership and synergy as Godrej Safety Dept, Mouka Foam, Nigerchin and others joined LASEMA, LASAMBUS, Nigerian Police to compliment the efforts of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service to bring the situation under control,โ€ the Lagos Fire boss added.

In September 2023, Mega Plastic, a company located in Ilupeju area of Lagos was gutted by fire.

Investigation revealed that the fire started from the companyโ€™s engineerโ€™s office, who was not around when the inferno started before escalating to the factory and the warehouse.
