Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has expressed profound sorrow over the sudden death of Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja whose death was announced on Wednesday.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by Ferdinand Ekeoma, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Governor Otti described General Lagbaja’s death at 56 as “shocking and untimely,” noting that he passed away at a time his services to the nation were most needed.

This partnership, Otti emphasized, was instrumental in ensuring peace and security within Abia State.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Army Chief, the acting Chief of Army Staff, Major General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, and the Nigerian Army as a whole.
The Governor also offered prayers for General Lagbaja’s soul, asking that God grants him eternal rest and gives his family the strength to bear this profound loss.
Governor Otti, on behalf of the government and people of Abia State, sent his sincere condolences to the President of the Nation, the Ag. Chief of Army Staff, Major General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede and the Nigerian Army as a whole.
