24-year old Toroabasi Etim, the best graduating student of the University of Uyo was the cynosure of all eyes during the recent combined convocation ceremony which ended over the weekend after he was named the best graduating student.
Breaking the 30-year record with a CGPA of 4.82, the highest since the university’s inception, Etim, a Mechanical Engineering graduate recounted the proud moment when he was named as the best graduating student.
” It is a major milestone I am proud of. This is a testament to my academic intellect and career potential for future success.
“I had the honor of being named the overall best graduating student at the University of Uyo’s 29th & 30th Combined Convocation Ceremony, which held yesterday.
“Standing on stage to deliver my valedictory speech, I reflected on my journey over the past five years studying Mechanical Engineering at UniUyo.
“The academic rigor, friendships, and guidance from lecturers who each contributed to my journey have all led to this moment, and I am deeply grateful to God for this achievement.”
Sharing the special moment on his social media handle, Etim listed other stunning achievements during his undergraduate studies at the University which he said included being the best graduating student in the Mechanical Engineering department and Faculty of Engineering, recognition for the best undergraduate thesis in the Faculty of Engineering and achieving a perfect 5.0 GPA three times.
According to him, he has received 15 undergraduate merit scholarships from renowned organizations such as TotalEnergies, Seplat Energy Plc, Chevron, Oriental Energy Resources Limited, Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), MTN Foundation, among others.
He said he published two research papers while he also gained valuable industry experience with top energy and construction firms like Shell and Setraco Nigeria Limited respectively.
Lauding the University of Uyo for being “more than just a place of learning,” he said “it’s been an experience that deepened his passion for engineering and shaped him personally.”
Etim is looking forward and eager to “explore graduate school opportunities and exciting career prospects in the energy industry that will enable me to further develop my skills, contribute meaningfully to the field of Engineering, and make a lasting impact.”
