HYPREP Seeks Collaboration With Customs For Smooth Project Delivery

The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP), in a bid to strengthen its ties with governmental agencies, has sought collaboration with the Nigerian Customs Service to ensure the smooth delivery of its projects in Ogoniland.

The Project Coordinator, Prof. Nenibarini Zabbey, received the Customs Area Comptroller, Area II Command, Onne Port, Mohammed Babandede, at the Project Coordination Office in Port Harcourt. During the meeting, Prof. Zabbey briefed the Area Comptroller on the mandate of HYPREP and its numerous ongoing projects in Ogoniland.

Some of the projects mentioned include soil and groundwater remediation, shoreline cleanup, mangrove restoration, construction of water schemes, the Ogoni Specialist Hospital, the Centre of Excellence for Environmental Restoration, the Ogoni Power Project, and sundry livelihood projects.

Prof. Zabbey also informed the Area Comptroller that the project is expecting about 30 containers of equipment for the Ogoni Power Project through the Onne Wharf early next year.

He requested collaboration between both organisations that would benefit the Ogoni youths.

In response, the Area Comptroller, Mr. Babandede, appreciated the warm reception and reassured the Project Coordinator that the Nigerian Customs Service is willing to collaborate with HYPREP to provide the necessary support for the smooth delivery of its mandate.

The meeting was also attended by the Chief Security Officer of HYPREP, AIG Emmanuel Effiom Rtd., and officers in the Area Comptrollerโ€™s entourage.
