IGP Presents Plans Towards Effective Policing In Africa

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has presented action plans of strategic policies aimed to curb the coordinated crime ravaging the region.

Egbetokun made this presentation while participating in the ongoing AFRIPOL Steering Committee Meeting in Algeria.

The Nigeria police noted in a statement on Thursday that the IGP had presented the action plans of strategic policy concepts in Nigeria and the West African subregion, in general, to boost effective policing at all levels.

โ€œThe IGP laid the template for the discussion on the strategies for executing coordinated investigations and operations across regions to effectively tackle various patterns of crimes and criminality, and the significance of training of officers in all areas of policing a complex society as we have in order to meet up with global best practices,โ€ the police said.

The force disclosed that the IGP thereafter paid an official visit to the headquarters of AFRIPOL as part of his activities towards creating a concrete relationship with other African policing services.

โ€œHe was received by the President, Douglas Kanja, IG National Police Service, Kenya, where both IGPs shared experiences on how to best manage violent protests in Africa.

โ€œIn attendance, also was Head of Legal at AU, Ambassador Mohammed, from the legal consulate African Union,โ€ the police noted.

The statement further quoted the IGP during his presentation, urging leaders and representatives of the regions to ensure policies decided upon at the meeting are leveraged to the fullest at all policing levels within their jurisdiction.

This, according to the IGP is to ensure that expertise and proficiency are exemplified in the fight against the increase in crime waves within the African region.
