Indian Prime Minister Visits Nigeria

The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, will arrive in Nigeria on a state visit on Saturday.

Bayo Onanuga, President Bola Tinubuโ€™s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, announced Modiโ€™s planned visit on Saturday.

According to Onanuga, the 74-year-old will be received by President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

โ€œHis visit to Nigeria will be the first by an Indian prime minister since Dr Manmohan Singhโ€™s state visit in 2007, when the two nations established a strategic partnership.

โ€œPresident Tinubu and Prime Minister Modi will seek to strengthen Nigeriaโ€™s and Indiaโ€™s ties further during their bilateral discussions.

โ€œBoth leaders will exchange signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) to enhance collaboration in critical sectors,โ€ said the presidency.

Modi became Indiaโ€™s Prime Minister on May 26, 2014, and is the member of parliament (MP) for Varanasi.

He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the longest-serving prime minister outside the Indian National Congress.
