Nigeria’s national grid has collapsed again, the fourth time in the last three weeks.
The collapse occurred around 1:52 pm on Tuesday, November 5.
This was revealed by the National grid’s X handle on Tuesday afternoon.
Several distribution companies shared information about the nationwide break in power supply, which has led to frustration among consumers.
In a statement, the Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) noted that, “We experienced a system outage today, November 5, 2024, at 13:52Hrs affecting supply within our network.
“Restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with our critical stakeholders.”
The recent spate of the national grid commenced on October 15. It would go on break down twice within 12 hours between October 18 and 19.
Recall that recently, energy distribution companies in the country increased the electricity tariff to over N200 per kilowatt hour for a new category of consumers they classified as Band A.
These customers were promised at least 20 hours of power supply daily after the approval of the federal government through the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
Energy experts confirmed to this newspaper that the challenges faced by the grid are due to the infrastructure being unable to handle the load shared among electricity users in the country. The country generates around 5,000 megawatts.
