As the Harmattan season approaches, bringing with it dry, dusty winds and associated risks, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said it is taking proactive measures to ensure communities across Nigeria are prepared and resilient.
A statement issued by the Agency noted that the Harmattan season, which spans from late November to mid-March, poses unique challenges, including respiratory ailments, eye irritation, and powerful windstorms.
To mitigate these risks, NEMA said it has launched a comprehensive approach to disaster management, encompassing sensitization, education, and collaboration with local stakeholders.
The statement reads: “The agency is dedicated to safeguarding lives, promoting health, and minimizing the disruption caused by the Harmattan season and other natural and man-made disasters.
“By working together as individuals, communities, and government agencies, we can build a more resilient Nigeria, capable of weathering these natural challenges and protecting the well-being of all citizens.”
Meanwhile, NEMA urged Nigerians to take proactive measures to protect themselves and their communities.
