Hip-hop icon Nicki Minaj confidently crowned herself the “Queen of Rap” when asked about her Halloween costume plans.
The artist didn’t hesitate to own the title in her response.
“The same thing I was last year…The Queen of Rap,” she said.
Her statement has ignited a wave of varied responses across social media.
Over the years, Minaj has found herself in frequent rivalry with other female rappers, each staking a claim on the title of the top female rapper.
Though Minaj holds the title of the world’s best-selling female rapper, a Grammy win has always eluded her.
Earlier this year, she briefly thought her decades-long wait was over when the Recording Academy’s official X account mistakenly announced her song Barbie World, a collaboration with Ice Spice, as the Best Rap Song winner over Killer Mike’s Scientists & Engineers.
Her celebration was short-lived as the tweet was quickly deleted and replaced with an official correction, confirming Scientists & Engineers as the actual winner.
