In a major stride toward curbing insecurity and economic sabotage, Nigerian troops have successfully neutralized 115 terrorists, arrested 289 suspects, and rescued 138 kidnapped victims across the country over the past week.
The troops also dismantled large-scale illegal refining operations and thwarted oil thefts worth ₦921.84 million.
Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, provided an update on these operations during a Thursday briefing, showcasing the military’s ongoing and vigorous efforts to secure the nation.
These accomplishments are part of the military’s nationwide campaign aimed at restoring peace, order, and economic stability.
In the South-East, security forces eliminated six terrorists, arrested 13 suspects, and freed one hostage.
The operation also led to the seizure of five AK-47 rifles, eight pump-action guns, and fabricated hand grenades.
In the North-East, troops concentrated their efforts in Borno and Yobe states, neutralizing 61 terrorists, arresting 34 suspects, and rescuing 32 hostages. Recovered items included 17 AK-47 rifles, PKT guns, and large quantities of ammunition.
The North-West operations were equally successful, as military forces neutralized 28 terrorists, arrested 77 suspects, and rescued 57 hostages.
They also seized 16 AK-47 rifles, explosives, and over ₦7.2 million in cash, further crippling terrorist financing.
In the North-Central region, operations in Plateau and Kaduna states resulted in the rescue of 40 hostages, the arrest of 27 individuals, and the seizure of arms, motorcycles, and mobile phones.
These actions continue to dismantle the terrorist networks and restore safety to the region.
The Niger Delta region saw a significant push against economic sabotage, with Operation Delta Safe achieving major victories.
Troops destroyed 56 illegal refining sites and 78 crude oil cooking ovens. They also recovered 872,070 liters of stolen crude oil and 67,985 liters of illegally refined diesel.
The operation resulted in the arrest of 40 suspects, and the seizure of boats, speedboats, and storage tanks.
In addition to ground operations, the military has carried out successful air interdiction missions, particularly in Katsina and Zamfara states, striking terrorist strongholds and causing significant enemy losses.
General Buba commended the troops for their dedication and resilience, emphasizing that the military remains committed to employing innovative strategies to minimize casualties while maintaining relentless pressure on criminal elements.
He reaffirmed the military’s focus on securing the country and safeguarding its citizens, acknowledging the sacrifices made by soldiers in these challenging operations.
“The military remains mission-focused and committed to defeating threats across the country,” General Buba stated. “We strive to minimize casualties while upholding our duty to protect lives and property.”
