“One of his best performances” – Arteta singles out Arsenal star for praise after dominant Sporting win

Mikel Arteta has praised Thomas Partey’s performance in Arsenal’s emphatic 5-1 victory over Sporting CP in the Champions League, describing it as “one of the best performances I have seen from him.”

Arsenal were clinical in Lisbon on Tuesday night, racing to a 3-0 lead by halftime with goals from Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Magalhaes.

Although Gonçalo Inacio pulled one back for Sporting early in the second half, Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard added further goals to seal a resounding win for the Gunners.

Partey was instrumental in midfield, controlling the game with poise and precision.

Arteta lauded the 31-year-old Ghanaian’s influence, highlighting his growing consistency.

“I think it’s one of the best performances I have seen from him, especially the way he’s dominated the game — so that’s the level he can play, he’s progressing,” Arteta said. “This year he’s been so consistent as well because he always has a role, that’s a big thing, he’s a massive player for us.”

When asked if the result was a “statement” to other Champions League contenders, Arteta pointed to the team’s performance against top sides like PSG and Bayern Munich earlier in the campaign.

“Now it’s Inter, now it’s this level. That’s the level we have to be able to cope with. You have to make it happen; then that creates belief,” he said.

Arteta also expressed optimism about Arsenal’s prospects with more players returning to fitness.

“Almost everybody is fit and available now. It’s true, we are still managing certain players, but their level is rising. I have no doubt we are going to be a really good side,” he concluded.
