The wife of the King of the United Kingdom, Queen Camilla, has withdrawn from royal engagements this week due to a chest infection, Buckingham Palace announced on Tuesday.
The Queen who was earlier scheduled to be present at the Field of Remembrance service at Westminster Abbey, on Thursday, will now be replaced by the Duchess of Gloucester.
The Queen will also not be attending a Buckingham Palace reception for Olympic and Paralympic athletes that will be hosted by King Charles III on the same evening.
A spokesperson for the palace stated, “Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest.
“With great regret, Her Majesty has therefore had to withdraw from her engagements for this week, but she very much hopes to recover in time to attend this weekend’s Remembrance events as normal.” the palace announced.
The palace also noted that no further details regarding her illness or treatment have been disclosed.
The Queen and King Charles III recently returned from a royal tour in Australia and Samoa.
King Charles faced health challenges earlier this year when he was treated for an undisclosed form of cancer and paused his public engagements in February, resuming in April.
The palace hopes that Queen Camilla will recover in time for the weekend’s Remembrance events, which are attended by senior members of the royal family.
