Rivers United’s unbeaten streak in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) came to a disappointing end after a 2-0 defeat to Ikorodu City on Matchday 10.
The game, held at the Lagos-based team’s home ground, saw Ikorodu City deliver a standout performance against one of the league’s top teams.
Ikorodu City broke the deadlock in the 48th minute when Ayomide C. found the net, putting the Lagos side ahead. Just five minutes later, Ayemwenre R. doubled the advantage, sending Rivers United into further trouble.
Despite Rivers’ best efforts, they couldn’t turn the game around, allowing Ikorodu City to claim all three points.
The defeat drops Rivers United, coached by Finidi George, to second place in the NPFL standings. Remo Stars capitalized on the result, securing a narrow 1-0 victory over Lobi Stars to climb to the top of the table.
The NPFL is heating up as the race for the top spot continues, with Remo Stars now leading and Rivers United looking to bounce back in the coming weeks.
