Sokoto State Female Education Board has launched a 13-member surveillance team to combat gender-based violence across schools in Sokoto State.
The team, comprising GBV prevention experts, civil society organisations, and ministry representatives.
Executive Secretary of the board, Professor Mustapha NaโMakkah, while inaugurating the members, said the team members will support Staff GBV Prevention and Response Committees and Student Clubs in schools across the state.
The Executive Secretary also said the initiative is aimed at reducing GBV incidence by 50% by the end ofย this yearโs academic session.
Professor Halimatu Sadiya, member of the team emphasised the importance of emotional stability of the survivors at the school level.
She added that the role requires individuals who can empathise with survivors and provide counselling support without being overly coercive.
Other speakers at the inauguraltion ceremony lauded the initiative as a proactive measure that promises a safe learning environment for girl- child in Schools.
