A tragic accident on Thursday claimed the life of a police officer on the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The collision involved a loaded Volvo truck, a Toyota Hiace bus, and a Mercedes-Benz bus.
It was gathered that the truck, while in motion, collided with the Mercedes-Benz bus, veered off course, and overturned onto the Toyota Hiace bus parked nearby.
The police officer, attached to the Mopol 20 Division, was en route to his office on a motorcycle when he became trapped in the incident, resulting in his immediate death.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident in a statement.
“A Police Officer attached to Mopol 20 Division manoeuvring his way back to the office on his motorcycle, got trapped by the incident and died instantly,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated.
“Investigations conducted by the LRT revealed that the truck crashed into a Mercedes Benz Bus while in motion, swerved off the road and fell uncontrollably on a Toyota Hi-Ace bus parked by the roadside,” he added.
The body of the deceased officer was extricated with the use of LASEMA’s heavy-duty equipment known as Super Metro, bagged and taken to Ojodu Police Station for further processing.
