The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has alleged that Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed wants Umar Damagum removed as the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) because the latter didnโt follow his demands.
The former Governor of Rivers State described Mohammed as being treacherous, alleging that he conspired with others to maintain the chairmanship of the PDP Governorsโ Forum in the Northern region.
Naija News reports that Wike made these remarks during a media briefing held in his office in Abuja on Wednesday.
The FCT Minister said: โWe have never had it this bad in PDP, in terms of leadership, particularly from the chairman of the Governorsโ Forum. Itโs not about talking but about action.
โHow do you know when someone is treacherous? When Tambuwal finished as chairman of the PDP Governorsโ Forum, we had always alternated between North and South.
โBut Bala and others conspired, went to Bauchi, and retained the chairmanship of the PDP Governorsโ Forum in the North.
โOf course, he knows if I were governor, that wouldnโt have happened. He succeeded because of what I call infantile ambition. To be a leader, you must make sacrifices and have the capacity to galvanize people.
โAs an opposition party, people will judge if you are serious about taking over power. Itโs not about talking or appearing on national TV to make accusations. Itโs not about insulting people.
โAs the chairman of the Governorsโ Forum, how has he organized his colleagues in funding the party?
โHow has he made the party efficient through the National Working Committee? How has he ensured they are ready to take over power from the ruling party in Ondo State?
โIt was Bala who said Damagun should complete Ayuโs tenure. When we went to the last NEC meeting and issues arose, it was Bala who sent people to court for an interpretation of the partyโs constitution.
โWhen Damagun didnโt follow his demands, he started saying Damagun must go.โ
