Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser to the President on Public Communications and Orientation, praised President Bola Tinubu for his crucial role in the emergence of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Dare noted that Buhari’s victory in the 2015 presidential election was largely due to the collaboration between Tinubu’s Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and Buhari’s Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), which, along with other parties, formed the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Dare stated, “If you look at the role Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu played in the emergence of Muhammadu Buhari, I can say clearly that without Tinubu’s role in forming the party, making the platform to be there, President Buhari would not have emerged.”
When asked if he advocated for Buhari to be the APC’s presidential candidate, Dare confirmed, “It couldn’t have been only me; it was a team. The electoral victories we won in 2015 and the one in 2019 had the writing of President Tinubu. We are a party, and beyond me, several other people were also invited.”
Dare, who served as Minister of Sports and Youth Development during Buhari’s administration, refrained from commenting on whether Buhari had failed during his eight years in office, asserting that governance is a continuum.
“Buhari came, did his bit and moved on. President Obasanjo did his bit and moved on, Yar’Adua came, did his bit and moved on. Jonathan came, did his bit and moved on,” he explained.
He expressed confidence in President Tinubu, stating, “President Bola Tinubu is there with the requisite experience and courage to take tough decisions that other presidents did not take,”
Dare also commended him for removing the petrol subsidy and implementing other economic reforms aimed at repositioning the nation’s economy.
