13 Dead in Tragic Ondo Road Crash, FRSC Confirms

The Ondo State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of 13 people in a fatal road accident that occurred on Saturday morning.

The crash happened around 10:14 a.m. at Abule Panu, near the Ose Bridge on the Owo/Ikare-Akoko highway, involving two buses.

According to the State FRSC Sector Commander, Samuel Ibitoye, the accident claimed the lives of all but one of the passengers, who sustained serious injuries.

In a statement, Ibitoye revealed that the victims were burned beyond recognition, and their remains have been deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre in Owo.

The lone survivor was also rushed to the same hospital for medical care.

Commander Ibitoye urged motorists to exercise patience and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy to avoid preventable accidents.

He also encouraged passengers to speak out against reckless or dangerous driving, emphasizing that road safety is a collective responsibility.

The tragic incident underscores the importance of adhering to road safety measures, especially on highways with heavy traffic.

Authorities continue to call on all road users to prioritize safety to prevent further loss of life.

The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing, and the FRSC has pledged to intensify efforts to ensure safer roads in the state.
