A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Sowunmi, has declared that the party’s presidential ticket is not reserved for anybody.
Speaking ahead of the 2027 elections in the country, Sowunmi submitted that anyone interested in the PDP presidential ticket must go through the party’s primary election and emerge victorious in order to clinch the ticket.
He argued that contrary to what is believed in some political quarters, the PDP ticket is only obtained through well-organized primary elections.
The PDP chieftain also threw a shade at some political parties that reserve their tickets for certain individuals, stating that such is not applicable in the PDP.
“We, we are PDP, we have structures for primaries, we don’t dash anybody ticket contrary to what people think.
“If you want to run an election in our party, I’m not talking about the other ones where there are always perpetual candidates in their parties, the smaller ones, you will have to go through the crucibles of a primary and when the votes are counted and you win, that’s it.
“But please, the ticket of PDP is not reserved for anybody,” he said while speaking during Channels Television Sunday Politics.
Earlier, Naija News also reported that Sowunmi expressed uncertainty about the plans of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, to contest the 2027 presidential election.
The PDP chieftain said he has asked Atiku twice about his ambition to run again, but has not received any response.
