Abia Rep Cancels 50th Birthday Celebration To Mourn Nmuri Bridge Accident Victims

The member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chief Ibe Okwara Osonwa, has cancelled plans for his 50th birthday celebration.

This decision follows the tragic road accident that occurred on Sunday at Nmuri Bridge, Ebem Ohafia, claiming six lives.

The lawmaker in a statement on Tuesday made available to newsmen expressed grief and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the entire Ohafia community, and the people of Abia State.

โ€œMy fellow constituents, as many of you may know, December 24th marks my 50th birthday.

โ€œThis is a significant milestone, and I am grateful for the blessings I have received. However, the joy of this occasion is deeply tempered by the tragic loss of six precious lives we lost in the recent motor accident that occurred in Nmuri Ebem Ohafia, Ohafia LGA. Abia State.

โ€œThis devastating event has cast a long shadow over our community, and I believe it is more appropriate to dedicate this time to mourning the loss of our loved ones and offering our deepest condolences to their families. My heart goes out to the families who have lost loved ones in this devastating incident.

โ€œThe loss of life in such a preventable manner is truly heartbreaking.
Therefore, I humbly request that you refrain from any celebrations of my golden jubilee.

โ€œInstead, let us unite as a community to remember those we have lost on that road and collectively support their families during this difficult time.

โ€œThis tragedy underscores the critical need to improve Bende โ€“ Ohafia Roadโ€”and other bad roads within the constituency.

โ€œI pledge to redouble my efforts communicating with the necessary agencies to secure the necessary resources to repair and upgrade that road, including the vital Omenuko Bridge. This will help prevent future accidents and ensure the safety of all who travel within our constituency.

โ€œLet us use this moment of sorrow to inspire action and work together to build a safer and stronger community for allโ€.

Hon. Osonwa reassured the Ohafia community of his commitment to ensuring the road is rehabilitated. He vowed to continue advocating for safe and accessible road networks for commuters and commercial traffic in the region.
