The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chief Ralphs Nwosu, has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration of President Bola Tinubu to halt what he described as “senseless borrowings.”
Speaking during the ADC’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Monday, Nwosu criticised the Federal Government’s borrowing and economic policies, stating they have worsened Nigeria’s economic challenges.
He urged a comprehensive review of the government’s financial strategy.
Nwosu also revealed steps to curb the trend of politicians using the ADC platform to secure electoral victories only to abandon the party after assuming office.
The chairman commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for promoting Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms, which he said have been instrumental in uniting party members.
“The ADC has been able to resolve disputes and unite members using the INEC-backed ADR mechanism.
“This is a testament to our commitment to fostering internal democracy and inclusiveness within the party,” Nwosu said.
Reflecting on the party’s journey since its founding in 2006, Nwosu outlined its goal to become Nigeria’s leading political party by 2027.
He highlighted the need for stronger alliances, including the ongoing partnership with the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), and urged members to work together with renewed unity.
“After 20 years, we must get it right. If I offended you, this is the time to forgive and make progress. By 2025, our party will become the number one party in Nigeria,” he declared.
Addressing past challenges, including the crisis following the actions of its 2023 presidential candidate, Nwosu announced the lifting of bans previously imposed on some members as part of reconciliation efforts.
He called for stronger party structures and greater ambition, saying, “Why do we elect only a few members to elective positions? Why can’t we have the majority in the house?”
Nwosu expressed confidence that ongoing reforms would position the ADC as a preferred platform for Nigerians, solidifying its role as a major political force.
