Super Eagles winger, Ademola Lookman, has been named the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year.
The 27-year-old received the prestigious award at a star-studded ceremony held in Marrakesh, Morocco, on Monday, marking a historic achievement for the Atalanta star.
Lookman’s exceptional performances for both club and country throughout the year earned him the recognition, cementing his status as one of Africa’s top football talents.
Lookman, who has been in sensational form for both club and country, beat stiff competition from other top African talents to clinch the coveted award at the CAF Awards ceremony held in Accra, Ghana.
In his acceptance speech, Lookman expressed gratitude to God, his family, and his supporters, while giving a heartfelt shoutout to his Nigerian roots.
He said: “Nigeria Ekuale, Eshe! Monki gbogbo yin.”
Translated to mean “Nigeria, thank you! I appreciate you all,” Lookman’s words resonated deeply with fans who have backed him throughout his journey.
The 26-year-old also took the time to thank his coaches, teammates, and fans for their unwavering support, saying, “This award is not just for me; it’s for everyone who has stood by me through the highs and lows. It’s for my country, my family, and my teammates.”
Lookman’s brilliance in front of goal and his creative prowess were pivotal in Atalanta’s strong performance in Serie A this season and Nigeria’s successful qualification for the 2025 AFCON.
