Dangote Refinery has begun exporting Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to several African nations, including Cameroon, Angola, Ghana, and South Africa, in recent weeks.
This move highlights the refineryโs growing presence in the global petroleum market.
Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited, confirmed the development during a meeting with a Japanese business delegation led by Japanโs Ambassador-designate to Nigeria, Suzuki Hideo.
Edwin explained that the products produced at the refinery meet international standards and are already being exported worldwide.
โOur products are already making their mark internationally. In recent weeks, weโve exported petrol to Cameroon, Ghana, Angola, and South Africa, among others. Diesel has gone all over the world, and jet fuel is being heavily exported to European markets,โ Edwin said in a statement.
He emphasized the refineryโs origin, explaining that it was designed and built by Nigerians with the vision of a Nigerian investor, Aliko Dangote, to serve both local and global markets.
Edwin highlighted the significance of the Dangote refinery being the worldโs largest single-train refinery complex, which was designed and constructed by Dangote Industries as the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction contractor.
The refinery incorporates advanced technologies to meet the highest international standards, with significant collaboration with global players, including Japanese equipment being used in the refinery and fertiliser plant.
Edwin also pointed out the role of the Dangote Petrochemical project in boosting investments in Nigeriaโs downstream industries, generating employment, increasing tax revenues, and contributing to the countryโs GDP.
He emphasized that producing refined products locally from Africaโs vast crude oil resources would reduce reliance on imports and create a cycle of industrial growth and prosperity.
The Japanese delegation, which toured the refinery and petrochemicals complex, expressed admiration for the project, calling it an โastonishing masterpieceโ that showcases Nigeriaโs technological progress on the global stage.
