The Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his swift action in ensuring the payment of a salary increment for military personnel, including three months’ arrears.
Additionally, the release of funds for pensions and other entitlements owed to retired military personnel underscores the President’s commitment to the welfare of the armed forces.
Dr. Matawalle, in a statement issued on Thursday, confirmed that alerts for the salary increment had been received by military personnel.
He praised the efforts of the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, for his dedication to actualizing the payments.
“This initiative reflects President Tinubu’s unwavering dedication to improving the welfare of our military forces, both serving and retired, and his resolve to uplift the living standards of those who have served the nation,” Dr. Matawalle noted.
The Minister reassured the armed forces that the payment of pension arrears would remain a priority under President Tinubu’s administration.
He urged military personnel to remain steadfast in their duties, emphasizing the President’s determination to bolster their morale and provide the resources needed to combat insecurity effectively.
“Despite initial setbacks, Mr. President will do everything within his power to ensure the Nigerian Armed Forces are equipped and motivated to confront the challenges of insecurity,” Matawalle stated.
Acknowledging the critical role of the military in addressing insurgency, terrorism, and other security threats, Dr. Matawalle highlighted their sacrifices in safeguarding the nation.
He reiterated President Tinubu’s commitment to eradicating insecurity, with the support of the military’s readiness and resilience.
